Abstract: Larvicide resistance testing is not nearly as well developed for operational use as adulticide methods have been. Among our oldest larvicide ingredients, (s)-methoprene is one that can be consistently frustrating and difficult to work with without extensive familiarity with the molecule and its peculiarities. Despite this, the need for protocols operant at the ground level is overwhelming. In this talk, it will be discussed some of the common details that are taken for granted when doing in-house testing, such as which instar do you use (3rd or 4th?) and does the container material for the bioassay matter? Also summarized will be moderating expectations of the bioassay (a month for results!?) and pitfalls that make it difficult to work with technical grade (misbehaves) vs. formulated material (overdosing). This is not rocket science. It might possibly be worse, depending on your experiences.
