Location: 208 B
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention has highlighted various needs to address the increasing threat of vector-borne diseases within the National Public Health Strategy to Prevent and Control Vector-Borne Diseases in People, released in early 2024. Throughout the United States and territories, there is no standard structure recommendation for mosquito and vector control programs. The structure of any program is critical to successfully and efficiently carrying out the goals of the program. Mosquito and vector strategies control may be challenging. The goals of each program may vary depending on climate, tourism, politics, disease burden, quality of life acceptable to local populations, and the legislation enabling such programs to be created. The goal of this presentation is to set up the Legislative and Regulatory Symposia 1 and 2. The first Symposium will cover different structures of programs throughout the United States. The second symposium will highlight specific local issues from various locations. It is important to keep in mind how the structure of such programs may help or hinder handling of these issues. This presentation will provide an overview of shared goals among programs, structure and placement types within local government, and how awareness brings about legislation to support these important programs.
