St Johns County is located in the northeast coast of Florida, just south of Jacksonville, and incorporates over 600 square miles. The Anastasia Mosquito Control District (AMCD) covers the entirety of St Johns County and treats for nuisance and vector mosquito populations. Arboviral surveillance is a critical aspect of AMCDs operations. AMCDs arboviral surveillance includes the use of sentinel chickens and mosquito pool testing via RT-qPCR. AMCD screens for West Nile virus, eastern equine encephalitis virus, Saint Louis encephalitis virus, and though not an arbovirus, recently started screening for dog heartworm. AMCD is also interested in the development of new sample collection and arboviral detection methods.
