Abstract: Initial efficacy and residual activity trials of pyriproxyfen in catch basins were conducted in northwest Riverside County from 2017-2019. Posttreatment observations of breeding and adult emergence were logged weekly for 50 weeks. Additional bioassays were performed by challenging treated and control water samples with colony reared Culex quinquefasciatus mosquitoes. Taken together, this information provided early evidence of extended residual control with pyriproxyfen; however, initial concerns on ecological causes of residual failure were also noted. We will discuss data highlighting key concerns in the development of extended field studies and the impact of sampling methods on our updated understanding of pyriproxyfen in larval control.
