Abstract: Essential oils of frankincense (Boswellia spp.) and myrrh (Commiphora spp.) (Burseraceae) were evaluated as larvicides against second and third instar Aedes taeniorhynchus, the Black Salt Marsh Mosquito. Serial dilutions were used to prepare a range of concentrations of oils diluted with Tween® 20 and distilled water. Distilled water + Tween and distilled water alone were negative controls and a 0.1% solution of naled in Tween and distilled water was a positive control. Frankincense appears to be more toxic to Ae. taeniorhynchus than does myrrh.
