Best Management Practices for Adoption of New Technology for Surveillance and Control of Mosquitoes AMCA's Presidential Address

Abstract: The new emerging, re-emerging, and increase of mosquito-borne diseases are a big challenge and threats to the public health. The fast development and adoption of new techniques, especially artificial intelligent for surveillance and control of mosquitoes and mosquito-borne diseases are critical for improving public health, reducing disease transmission, and enhancing operation efficiency. Best Management Practices for adoption of new techniques are a main strategy for a integrated mosquito management. Followings are the main components for a successful IMM program: Assessments needed and setting goals, objectives with metrics, such as reducing disease, lowing mosquito population in a high-risk area, and reducing cost. Conduct research and selection based on the program needs, budget, and expertise, such as drone-based mosquito surveillance and control, automated mosquito trap systems, AI-driven tools for predicating analytics and genetic modification. Developing a practical planning and strategy based on current program and systems, such as GIS, database platforms, workflow, and risk assessment. Providing training and building capacity for staff, cross-disciplinary training, community education. Collection of data and monitoring by using AI algorithms and machina learning for data-analysis. Consideration of regulatory compliance and ethics. Evaluating and adjusting progress frequently. Building a sustainability and long-term impact program. Developing a collaboration with technique providers and related partners and community. Continuing learning and innovation and following /adopting / updating /using the new technology and techniques for the surveillance and control of mosquitoes and mosquito-borne diseases. It is honorable and privilege as the President to serve the AMCA in the past year. Thanks all AMCA members for giving me the opportunity to have the leadership experience and serve to the AMCA.
