Ima Aparecida Braga, Ph.D., is a faculty member of the Professional Master's Program in Vector Surveillance and Control at Instituto Oswaldo Cruz - Fiocruz. She graduated in Biology, holds a Master's in Medical Entomology from the University of Panama, and earned her Ph.D. in Parasitic Biology from Fundação Oswaldo Cruz (2004). She has specialized training in epidemiology, having completed the Epidemiology for Health Managers Program at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
She previously worked at the Brazilian Ministry of Health, where she contributed to entomology, vector control, and operational research, playing a key role in developing strategies to combat vector-borne diseases at the national level. Her experience in public health policy and program implementation has significantly impacted national and regional efforts in vector surveillance and control.
Currently, she serves as the President of the Latin American Network for Vector Control (Relcov), where she leads strategic initiatives to strengthen regional capacities in vector control and the prevention of vector-borne diseases. Under her leadership, Relcov has promoted the integration of public health policies, the exchange of technical and scientific knowledge, and the capacity-building of health professionals across Latin America.
In addition, she is a Technical Advisor to the State Health Department of Minas Gerais and an active member of the PAHO Working Group on the Integrated Management Strategy for Dengue Prevention and Control in Latin America.
As an independent consultant in entomology, vector control, and epidemiology, her expertise focuses on vector control strategies for dengue and malaria, insecticide resistance monitoring, and entomological surveillance.
