I am a passionate entomologist and naturalist with more than 5 years of experience in the field of biology. I am currently going to the University of Southern Mississippi to gain my Master of Science in biology. I have completed my Bachelor of Science in biology - natural science at Utah Tech University. While there I gained many hands-on experiences in a variety of classes such as entomology, plant taxonomy, plant ecology, ichthyology, marine biology, ecology, evolution, genetics, meteorology, climatology, and geology. Through these classes I gained the ability to identify various plants, insects, and other organisms as well as the ability to analyze the habitat around me. I have also worked in a variety of biology-based professions. While working at a variety of museums such as the Utah Tech University Barnum Biology Museum, Thanksgiving Point Butterfly Biosphere, and the William Hoy Insect Museum I gained skills such as specimen curation, animal care, public outreach/education, and general skills required to run a museum. Most recently I worked at the Salt Lake City Mosquito Abatement District where I was able to utilize my museum experiences to curate their mosquito collection starting from a point of complete disarray. I also have utilized valuable skills such as mosquito identification, mosquito rearing, and lab / field work with experimental trails as well as technical skills like operation of CO2 pumps, data entry into various programs, maintenance of insect traps, and operation of surveillance vehicles in remote locations. From this experience I was able to perform my own research into mosquito flower sugar ecology which I will be publishing a paper about soon. While not at school I also spend much of my free time working on my personal insect collection of seven years.
