Filiz Gunay is an Assistant Professor at Hacettepe University, Ankara, Turkey, where she received MSc and PhD degrees in Ecology, as well as a Post-doc Researcher at the Florida Medical Entomology Laboratory, UF, IFAS, FL, USA. Her PhD thesis was focused on the mosquito fauna of Turkey with morphological and molecular identification techniques in association with the Natural History Museum in London and the Smithsonian Museum (WRBU) in Washington, DC, USA. She worked in IRD Montpellier, France, to prepare a computer-aided identification key for mosquitoes, MosKeyTool, useful in Europe, North Africa and the Middle East. She has taken roles in scientific communication in the EU-supported AIM-COST Action and has been involved in numerous national and international projects such as MediLabSecure, EDENext and VectorNet. As the Director of the European region of SOVE, she chaired the 22nd and 23rd ESOVE Conferences in Sofia, Bulgaria (2022), and Montpellier, France (2024).
