126 - Uncovering reproductive consequences of seasonal differences in mosquito ejaculate

Abstract: In temperature climates male Culex mosquitoes mate in the fall as they do not survive the winter. Therefore, female Culex must maintain that sperm while they are in a state of reproductive dormancy or diapause. Earlier research suggests that male mosquitoes change the composition of their ejaculate in response to seasonal cues. Here, I evaluate whether post-diapause females that mate with short-day reared males produce more offspring than those that mated with long-day reared males.
