Deputy State Epidemiologist

Nathan Tan M.D. is the Deputy State Epidemiologist and Deputy Chief of the Disease Outbreak Control Division at the Hawaii Department of Health. His work for the department includes human arboviral disease surveillance and response. Dr. Tan received his Bachelor of Arts in Physics from Cornell University and his Doctor of Medicine degree from University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine before completing Residency in Family Medicine at the University of Hawaii Family Medicine Residency Program. Following residency, he practiced on the island of Saipan in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands where he also served as Chief of Family Medicine at the Commonwealth Health Center. Prior to joining the Department of Health, he worked at Kokua Kalihi Valley Comprehensive Family Services where he served as Assistant Clinical Director and worked included leadership in the COVID-19 response and viral hepatitis program.
