Head of Biology Department
Jazan University, Jizan, Saudi Arabia
I am head of Biology Department, Jazan University. I hold a PhD from the University of Manchester in the field of environmental biology, specializing in the study of insects, with a particular focus on molecular techniques and vector-born disease i.e., mosquitoes (Aedes aegypti). My MSc (from Texas A&M University), was on examining the impact of mycolactone on life-history traits of mosquitoes. I graduated with BSc in Biology from Jazan University in 2012.
Since 2012, I have taught several courses in entomology, biology and research tools. I have research experience of 12 years, which started when I enjoyed conducting small experiment during the undergraduate using the mosquito vector Culex. This work was then published as first ever scientific publication and me being the first author.
Before doing PhD at the University of Manchester, I had a valuable research experience on molecular biology at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) working on "Molecular analysis of phenotypes affecting disease transmission in Aedes aegypti mosquitoes in Saudi Arabia".
On March 2023, I was awarded the “Jazan Award for Excellence and Creativity” for Scientific Research Branch - 15th (2023).
