Biological Specialist

Originally from upstate New York, Beth moved to Florida in 2004 and began her career with Charlotte County Mosquito & Aquatic Weed Control working in the biology department. She fell in love with every aspect of mosquito control, becoming a certified mosquito identification specialist at FMEL in 2006 and continuing to learn everything she could relating to mosquito biology. 20 years into her career, she continues to work as the biological specialist for Charlotte County, running the biology department which includes all forms of mosquito surveillance, resistance monitoring, the sentinel chicken program, mosquito fish program, education and outreach, fog truck calibrations, truck and helicopter droplet analysis, and more. She has taught the Sentinel Chicken Disease Surveillance course at FMCA's Dodd short courses for the past three years and plans to continue. In 2022, she published a paper in JAMCA highlighting several previously undocumented species of mosquitoes detected in Charlotte County. She has done several talks over the years regarding the operations and product testing performed in the county. She is currently working on an exciting, collaborated project to be published soon.
